Tong Yuen Making

Tong yuen is the colourful glutinous balls chinese eat on ‘Dong Zhi’ (Winter Solstice Festival). Get your hands on making tong yuen, cooking them and eating them on the spot!! Hygiene guaranteed!! Come find out about why tong yuen is eaten, and learn the skills of making tong yuen with fillings from our (skilful) workshop facilitators!! ^_^

Calligraphy

Here is the chance to know more about Chinese characters and the Chinese calligraphy from our friendly and helpful workshop facilitators! We will provide papers and templates for you; and for those who do not know their chinese name but are curious how to write it, our workshop facilitators will help you out too!

Henna Hennahand

You all must have seen it but may not know that henna is the ‘indian tattoo’. This activity is not gender biased cuz guys, there’re ‘manly’ henna designs for u all too! Or you all can come and find out why henna is done among indians, the history behind it, and perhaps, check out the girls who are getting their henna done =P

Sari Wearing Demo

Ever wonder how our Indian friends wear their saris? It is not easy! There is an art in wearing sari too’ come find out. There will be a LIVE model (not telling who it is) at the demo =P

Roti Canai Making

Personally, mamak culture is THE malaysian culture to me. You don’t even find mamak stalls in India whereby ppl like us hang out with friends and watch football matches. Come try your hands at making roti canai (won’t be cooked, and no worries you won’t be asked to eat it)-flip them, toss them, design them! There are hampers to be won!!

Bamboo Dance

Bamboo

Come have fun with our workshop facilitators who have been going for ‘dancing classes’ in our bamboo dance! Find out the how the natives do it and why they do it.

Ketupat Folding

Lan_project_009_2

Remember the white rice cakes that usually come with your satays? Well that is ketupat. Remember those little ketupats you find in malls during Hari Raya? Well, come check out the workshop and we will show you how to fold ketupat =) You may bring it back too!

Gasing

In this age where DOTA and War of the Worlds prevail, we urban ppl barely know the tradiational games. Remember how your dad or your grandpa used to tell you about their ‘victory’ in gasing games back in the kampung? Well, come experience your second childhood with us =)

IMUians, especially my friends, please come and support us!! My friend, Jason and I are the leaders of this interactive workshop and we really hope it will be a success!! We need your participation!! This is entirely educational and not so much on profit-making-we have forked out $$$ to organise the workshop.

This project is our Malaysian Studies assessment as we are NOT going to sit for paper *so DO NOT want to* So your presence will be greatly appreciated. You have nothing to lose, after all, it is FREE!*

Get to know new friends =) and have fun yourself on 13 April too!! The workshop facilitators will be dressed in tradiational clothes.

*Disclaimer: The henna tattoo, as stated above, will be charged at a reasonable price to help us cover our cost. Activities are subjected to change.
