B105: Overview of Everything Thus Far..
1. We can’t co-organise the imu ball because the president said that profit-making is not the aim of the event; furthermore, the committee has been elected.
However, do be on the lookout for dresses and suits for tis’ the season to be jolly (over the sales =p)!
2. We need to agree on a mechanism to carry all the fund-raising projects from sem 6 onwards.
A suggestion from Alan is to divide the class into groups according to their friends. Each group is required to carry out at least a fund-raising projects. The fund-raising projects will span over the sem, hence there is a need for the leaders of each group to have discussion so that the dates of projects won’t clash.
I have conveyed this idea to a few people and so far the response is good. The reasons being that:
a) You work better with your own group of friends.
b) Sleeping partners are unavoidable, but if the culprit is in the group of their friends, he/she is more likely to give co-operation.
c) Smaller groups can combine among themselves and carry out a project if the project is on a bigger scale.
So.. what do you think?
3. Do you think we need a committee to oversee the projects? Should this committee be the same as the committee for the editorial board? The selection of the editorial board should ideally take place in the first week of sem6, for as the time goes, we are more likely to be bounded by workloads. Also, we need time to plan for the potential money-making events i.e. Chinese New Year and also Valentines’ Day.
4) Alex and group is so semangat about fund-raising that they are starting them this holz. If all goes well (I am concerned about the legality issue and how some ppl will kacau us), they will be selling sprays, glow sticks on count-down days and also the coming concert at Bkt Jalil this Sat. That’s the spirit man!
I was thinking, we can just spray ourselves if someone thinks we are selling the supply T_T (syiok sendiri, we can claim ourselves to be). I will talk to Alex for more details as I am interested in helping out on Christmas eve.
5. In case u are wondering, why should we dedicate our time for the projects? Can’t we just pay RM80 each? (one convo mag is about that price, as told to me by the editor of current medic sem 5)
Wai chiat said that we should emulate our mpharm seniors, who didn’t need to pocket a SINGLE CENT for their convo mag. Ofcuz since we are bpharmers, we don’t have all the time in the world. Thus it would be great if we just put in our best.
The convo mag is about what we have been through, and the process of making the convo mag works (the projects that we carry out) will be the contents of the convo mag (pics of you selling things and having fun instead of being a nerd in the library, for instance).
Let’s put in effort to create our own fond memories!
Meanwhile, be on the lookout for ideas as you go about shopping or painting the town red on count-down days. Have a blessed Christmas and New Year celebration b4 we embrace sem6.^_^

‘how much money do we expect each group to contribute (maybe we can set a minimum)? we need to discuss this’
Elaine suggested that and I think it is a good idea… it is not possible to have groups with same number of ppl but then the smaller groups can work with other smaller groups (I am confident that some groups do click with other groups ok!) ..the idea of setting a minimum will be good motivation for each group..

On the first week of uni, I suggest we divide into groups of equal amounts of members to do projects for 2 months, eg: 5ppl for one project during the first week of the month. Hence, there would be 4 projects for one month. The other groups for the second month would then have to organise a large scale project within the first month. So, in the end we would have 4 small scale projects and 1 large one for the first month, which would then rotate. Besides that, we might as well give each group a minimum amount of money to collect to ensure that they do something for the project and not just play around.
Some suggestion would include, selling food (like dunkin/big apple/j.co) that slash down the prices for us.
We can always organise a pharmacy night/event/ball with mpharm since they are also collecting money for their convo mag, thus, we can get lecturers. dean, mpharm, bpharm to attend.

hey po leen, hope u are reading this. Thanks for being active here!!
my fren told me that p107 has similar ideas about the pharm ball, but it was rejected but ms may kuan coz not good to split medic n pharm (as the situation is already you-know-wat with imu cup).
the idea of dunkin/j co etc will work..dominoes pizza too!
we also should look out for sponsors (pceutical companies) that we can advertise in our convo mag..

allocating certain amount of money to b collected in each group it good but i dun think it’s very practical.i mean each group will b selling different thgs n the price range will b different. so, if let say a group is selling a type of food that doesnt cost much then i’ll b quite difficult for them to reach the target.
since alot of us r complaining about the price n quality of the cafeteria food, i was thinking mayb we can set out focus on the food area. if the food we sell is at resonable price n the quality is good i dun see a reason y the food will not sell. we can try to get the food at cheaper price n sell it slightly higher but make sure that the profit margin is not too high if not the food will b expensive n ppl would not buy.
Also, mayb we can hav another carnival. the last carnival we had was a success. if this project is too big to handle solely by us, probably we can hav a join project with the mpharm (sumthg similar to the one we had for m’sian studies).
wat gian wan mentioned, about getting sponsors frm pharmaceutical companies…well, all af us recently jz went for attachment…we can assign each gp that had went for attachment at various companies to ask for sponsorships.

actually weiyin was the one who suggested sponsorship. Pceutical companies are our target; but I don’t see why we shouldn’t try companies that some of our parents are working at/have contacts. hehe also Caring pharmacy since ms. wong taught us b4.
like ur idea about food; but we can’t do it for long term..bsides time-consuming I scared cafeteria complains about us T__T
OH ya one u got BIG APPLE now!! hehe I bought it yesterday..(Shall not list the price here) but I think it is a good idea to sell Big Apple rather than dunkin donuts coz it is sth new ma..only at the curve..some imu ppl hardly go all the way to one u/da curve so yeah..
anyway we need to divide into groups n have a proper discussion with the class..then only we can get started ^_^ so far ideas are good!
btw alex n gang made rm100 on xmas eve! thanks!!
